Anatomy Applied: Strength
A 5-hour CPD day for yoga teachers keen to extend their knowledge of anatomy and apply it on the mat.
With a combination of anatomy and breathing theory, practice of asanas/sequences and group work we will explore anatomical principles through our own experience and plan your strategies for implementing what you learn:
- How to apply centre of gravity, weight distribution, breath mechanics and lines of force to develop your students’ structural strength and stability alongside stretch work
- Teaching tips to encourage your students to build awareness of their own body mechanics and the difference between challenge and overworking
- Developing lesson plans with anatomical focus within a yogic framework
- Communication, cueing and adjustments to activate good grounding, core stability and use of the breath
Anthea qualified with the BWY in 2006, completed the Yoga and Anatomy Series with Gary Carter two years later, and now teaches classes, workshops, retreats, 1:1 yoga and teacher training. Graduating with the Institute of Yoga Sports Science® (YSS) in 2011, she is an Advanced Yoga Sports CoachTM and Director of Academic Faculty for YSS on their teacher training and yoga for athletes courses. She combines these yoga skills with sports/remedial massage therapy and myofascial release, helping students and clients from all walks of life and sport. She specialises in postural anatomy and structural fitness, and has a strong belief in the potential of yoga for effective performance of the mind and body, injury prevention and lifestyle management.
